Problem: Users upgrading to Windows 7 will find that Windows Explorer’s default setting in all the versions of Windows hides file extensions. The system files and folders are also hidden.
Resolution: Perform the following steps to unhide all the extensions:
STEP 1. Launch the Windows explorer and select Tools.
STEP 2. Navigate to Folders options > View.
STEP 3. Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box to view the extensions for all file types.
STEP 4. You can also select the Show hidden files and folders and clear the Hide protected operating system files check boxes. This will help you to view all the files that can be used when you are troubleshooting your system.
